Welcome to Drumcarrow

Drumcarrow Craig is the home of Lohoar Sport Horses and is based 3 miles from the University town and golf centre of St Andrews on the east coast of Scotland.

We specialise in the following:

We are very pleased to be agents for the following companies and proud of our close relationship with them and grateful for their continued support.

Lohoar Sport Horses understand the importance of patience and a consistent approach with horses to get the best out of them. Angus and Stephen Lohoar have both worked, trained and competed in a number of countries, where they have gained invaluable experience.

All horses at Drumcarrow are treated as athletes and kept in a pleasant quiet environment within modern first class facilities giving them the best chance to show their full potential.

It is a strongly held view that all horses must have basic dressage skills, no matter what discipline they are intended for. Repetitive groundwork exercises underline the importance of control and discipline on the flat leading ultimately to greater success and satisfaction when going over jumps.

At Lohoar Sport Horses, we break and train as well as buy and sell and have the experience to compete showjumpers, at all levels.

“Our reputation means everything” is not stated lightly. When the horse trading business was started in 2004 it was decided then, to set and maintain high standards. The many satisfied and repeat customers from around the UK and beyond are testament to this.

‘ A lot of time is spent sourcing the quality sound horses that are required by ever more discerning customers. There are no shortcuts taken and we personally select and exercise every horse. This allows us to offer reliable first hand information to enquirers and increases the chance of successfully matching horse and rider. ‘ Angus and Stephen Lohoar

19th May. Fife Show, Cupar. 48 hours of rain leading upto the day put a question mark on our local show going ahead. It turned out to be a lovely sunny warm day but we decided to leave half of the horses at home because of doubtful ground conditions. Stephen and Twice Shy excelled to finished 3rd in the Foxhunter and qualified for next month's Royal Highland Show. Esra was also double clear and 3rd in the Grade C then Lucy with Titi d'Oase won the big class of the day. Not bad!!

7th May Chepstow. Lucy and Titi were involved in the European Young Riders Team Trials. Over 3 testing courses they were 2nd in a speed class and 3rd (in horrendous weather) in the Sunday Grand Prix. They were picked for the GB Team in the Nations Cup Competition, initially competing in Wierden in Holland and Hagen in Germany next month. Brilliant!!

6th May Chepstow. Stephen and Lucy are competing in Wales this week. It is only a 9 hour drive to get there! Cojack and Castro are continuing their education getting 2 double clears in Discovery and 5 double clears in Newcomers between them over 3 days competing.. Twice Shy was equally consistant throughout and won the Newcomers on Sunday. Esra had a low Foxhunter placing and then was 4th in a Grade C class.

29th April. We are always excited when we hear about horses that we have sold that are doing well. Today, Tubana ridden by George Whitaker won a 3* Grand Prix in France against world class opposition. We also regularly hear about the successes of Double Dutch in Dubai. She clearly enjoys the heat of the Middle East and is "taking the UAE by storm" winning many big classes.

28th April The Cabin, Inverurie. It is always a pleasure supporting this north east centre. The "chat" is always good! Best of the day was Esra with double clear and 5th in the Foxhunter and followed it up with 6th in the B&C.

22nd April SNEC. Castro and Cojack had there now customary double clears in Discovery and Castro followed that up with another in Newcomers. Angus's new horse Tresor had his first outing in a 1.05m and was impressive. Nicola Drysdale's Twice Shy is also improving all the time and finished 4th for Stephen in the Foxhunter.

21st April. We listen with interest about drought conditions in England. It just doesn't want to stop raining here and just a day or two of dry weather would be great. A point of interest: the swallows arrived back today!

12th April We had a foal at 1.15am this morning. Our broodmare "Ukie" had a colt foal sired by Triomphe de Muze (Chin Chin x Galoubet A). He is a big boy and is all legs! This is our second foal from Ukie (by Nimmerdor). She is so laid back about the whole thing and is the best mother a foal could have.

6th April Kingsbarn EC. Jackie Kemp's "£10 per entry" shows are are proving very popular. Castro and Cojack are developing quickly and on only their 2nd Newcomers they were both double clear. Twice Shy was 2nd in the Foxhunter. This is new territory for her and she is starting to show that she can really jump. All the other horses jumped well and Lucy and Titi were back in the winners circle winning the Sunday 1.40m.

31st March Gleneagles. It was a satisfactory days competition but with no rosettes except for Lucy winning the 1.30 with Titi. New horse Eclips van't Schuurken is still very green but with enomous ability.Cojack and Castro now jump Discovery for fun and moved up to their first Newcomers as well. Esra jumped the Foxhunter and 1.30m and in a few weeks will be competing regularly in the bigger classes.

30th March . In case our readers have been wondering why there have been no updates for the last 2 weeks, it is because the "administrator" and his wife have been on holiday! Everything will be up to date in the next few days with some of the new horses and all the news.

9th March Ingliston CC. Another exciting day of competition. Castro and Cojack both were amazing again in Novice and Discovery classes with Castro the only one to touch a pole in the Discovery jump off. Twice Shy qualified for her second class at this summer's Scope Festival, this time in the 1.15m. Lucy and Titi slipped up this week to finish just 2nd in the big class of the day.

4th March. Kingsbarn, Falkirk. Jumped both Cojack and Castro in the only suitable class of the day a 1.05m Scope Qualifer which was a step up for both of them. Cojack had one down but Castro took it all in his stride to go clear. Twice Shy jumped in the same class and finished 4th to qualify for the Festival.

24th February Ingliston EC. Highlights of the day were from our homebred youngsters. Cojack and Castro were both placed in both the Novice and Discovery. A lot of hard work has gone in to getting them to this stage and it is now really exciting as they gain confiidence every time they compete. Twice Shy was also double clear in the Newcomers as was Dirana who was given a light workout in the 1.20m. Titi and Lucy were back at their best again winning the 1.30m.

18th February Kingsbarn EC. Snow and wind are the worst combination at this exposed centre but there was still a big turnout. Cojack kept up his improvement and finished 2nd in the Novice class. Although all the horses jumped well nothing else made the line-up which was disappointing.

11th February SNEC. It was a day for taking the young horses. Cojack is progressing really well and went round his first Discovery course. Castro is taking a bit longer to get used to shows and will take a few more to get his confidence. The great thing is that they are both showing great ability. - Patience! Stephen also steered Veron Wald into 2nd place in the Discovery.

8th February. Angus and Stephen are off to Belgium today on one of their regular visits to look for more horses.

6th February Aintree, Liverpool. Stephen and Lucy competed over the weekend at this impressive centre that is part of the famous racecourse. As at all big shows in England the competition was fierce with many of the top riders competing. It was the ideal opportunity to give Dirana a step up in level and after she competed well in the 1.40's she did very well in the big Sunday Grand Prix without being in any line ups. Esra had her first outing for some time and after being double clear in a foxhunter she went on to finish 4th in the Hickstead Winter Novice Qualifier. Stephen has the ride on Twice Shy at the moment and after finishing double clear and 11th in a very good Newcomers she moved up and finished 11th in the same Hickstead Qualifier. Lucy with her superstar horse Titi, had a relatively unexciting weekend with a 4th in a 1.40 and then was unlucky in the Grand Prix.

29th January Ingliston EC. It was the start of the Royal Highland Show qualifiers. Stephen just failed to qualify for the Young Masters with Dirana, but Lucy did make it with Titi. There are plenty more chances and we are very confident Dirana will qualify for all the classes she can compete in.

7th January. Rowallan EC. The boys took 7 horses to the show and only one horse had 4 faults. Everything else went clear. Dirana van't Heike was 3rd in the 1.30 and Rumalia was placed 3rd in the 1.05. Twice Shy was 4th in the Newcomers and Veron Wald was 6th in Discovery. Most pleasing of all was Cojack going to his first double clear and 5th in the Novice class. New horse Elstar van de Smishoeve was double clear in both his classes. It was a very satisfying day!
